LEE O’CONNOR has now completed his move from Celtic to join Tranmere Rovers on a season long loan. The former Manchester Utd and Republic of Ireland international full-back has yet to make his first team debut at Celtic although has impressed in the reserves and on loan at Partick Thistle.
Now though O’Connor get the opportunity of first team football at Tranmere Rovers who concluded a double signing today with midfielder Paul Lewis also signing after recently leaving Cambridge Utd.
We reported on this move being imminent on The Celtic Star this morning saying that Lee O’Connor was set to make a loan move to EFL League 2 with Tranmere Rovers and that deal has now gone through.
The former Manchester United player signed for Celtic last summer and has been on loan at Partick Thistle in the second half of last season.
The Merseyside club were relegated last season and the versatile defender will be an impressive addition to their ranks. Despite being highly rated at Celtic Park, O’Connor has failed to make the breakthrough that he had hoped for, whilst Jeremie Frimpong – who signed on the same day in 2019 – became a regular around the first team. Despite being yet to make his Celtic debut, O’Connor made his Ireland debut in a 3-1 win over New Zealand in November and has captained the Celtic reserve side.
Celtic will also be glad at getting the promising youngster some important first team football before returning to the club at the end of the season.
