Tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie is perhaps even more important than last Wednesday at Easter Road…
Wednesday night’s result against Hibs was a massive win in the context of things, the pressure was huge going into the game and it was terrific that we managed to get a result. However it could be said Tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie at St Mirren is even more important in shaping the rest of our season.
It will be a tough challenge make no mistake. Forget about our impressive showing and result against the Buddies at the start of the year, this is a totally different game, it’s a cup tie and anything can happen. Not to mention our rather lethargic form at the moment, this is a game that could prove to be very difficult indeed.
Stephen Robinson’s side have also rediscovered their early season fine form after a bit of a slump, so we will need to be at the top of our game if we want to advance to the quarter finals.
The pressure on Celtic will be huge. Lose this and we are basically handing theRangers a free run at another trophy. Yes they could be on course for a domestic treble, and that is unthinkable. It simply cannot be allowed to happen.
We are still in with a great chance of winning the two main trophies. We have better players and a manager who should know how to get the job done, in what is a tiny stadium that looks like being half full, to say the least. The Celtic end behind the goal has of course sold out but St Mirren fans seem reluctant to buy their tickets for a Scottish Cup tie that is not on their season tickets.
The stand behind the other goal looks like being particularly quiet and it will be a frustration for the Scottish FA and their sponsors to see a near empty stand – unless there is a late rush of ticket sales to the home support – on our television screens..
That aside, Celtic must at all costs see our name in that quarter final draw come tomorrow evening. Brendan Rodgers has never lost a Scottish Cup tie and it’s essential that he maintains that record at St Mirren.
