Celtic’s opponents on Saturday, Hamilton Accies, have confirmed that one of their players has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of their fixture versus Livingston tomorrow. Brian Rice’s side play Celtic on Saturday afternoon and anymore positive cases could result in the game being postponed.
As reported by BBC Scotland, one unnamed player will miss the game tomorrow as well as the Boxing Day clash versus Celtic and St Johnstone on the 30th. The report says that no other players have been identified as close contacts yet, meaning that the game is not at risk for being postponed yet.
Neil Lennon’s side will be desperate for there to be no more cases at Hamilton, considering they have three games to play in the New Year. Whilst, the Scottish Champions sealed a Quadruple Treble on Sunday at Hampden, they still sit second in the Premiership table – a huge sixteen points behind Rangers.
This means that Celtic need to be playing these games now and not having any more postponements to their schedule. Celtic will be hoping that they hit a purple patch before the trip to Ibrox on January 2 and have a favourable run of fixtures ahead of the Glasgow Derby match at the beginning of 2021.
Celtic have three games to play in their fixture backlog, a game versus Aberdeen at Celtic Park, St Mirren at Celtic Park and Livingston Away. Nine points that could be pivotal to the 10IAR challenge.
