Hampden was literally awash with green and white on 26 May 2001 as Celtic took on Hibs hoping to win the Scottish Cup and complete a domestic Treble, our first in over thirty years!
It was a glorious day as Martin O’Neill led his side out and only Alex McLeish’s Hibs side stood in the way of making history.
We suffered an early blow as we lost the talented Lubo Moravcik to injury, but it was soon forgotten about as his replacement the ever reliable Jackie McNamara struck to give us the breakthrough.
Henrik Larsson – who else? – would add a brace as we prevailed in our quest to complete a Treble, our first in thirty two years and only the third in our history. We partied in the golden Hampden sunshine as Martin O’Neill’s legendary side paraded the trophy. History was made and it was special to witness it.
Fast forward twenty two years and we have the chance to yet again make history in the Hampden sunshine. If successful it will be our EIGHTH treble, a Scottish and indeed a World record. Let’s hope the class of 2023 achieve the same as the class of 2001. COYBIG.
