Celts in Qatar – Daizen Maeda starts for Japan against Spain

Daizen Maeda has been recalled to the starting XI for Japan in their crucial World Cup match against Spain tonight. The forward has yet to score at the tournament and this evening would be a perfect time for his to open his account at Qatar 2022.

The Celtic striker was the only player from the club that was called up by national team coach, Hajime Moriyasu and he may live to regret that decision if Japan fail to qualify for the Round of 16. Germany are chasing that second spot in the group and are to face Costa Rica tonight.

Japan really should have beaten Costa Rica in their last match but decided to be too casual in their approach to the game and it cost them dearly in the end up. Tonight, they face the difficult task of taming a Spanish side who dismantled the Costa Rica team who beat Japan 1-0. It promises to be a really good game and Daizen has the chance to be the hero, joining Josip Juranovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Aaron Mooy in the knockout stages of a World Cup.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
