Celtic have been very active in the transfer market over the last couple of weeks. A number of deals have either been completed or are close to completion, while the rumour mill continues to go into overdrive when it comes to speculation about signing a new right back.

Renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has today reported that Celtic are in talks with Rennes full back Brandon Soppy and Royal Antwerp’s Portuguese right back Aurelio Buta. Those names are listed in addition to the speculation from other outlets that Ange Postecoglou is plotting a £1m swoop for Sacha Boey – another Rennes full back who spent last season on loan at Ligue 2 club Dijon.

Now, a fourth name has been thrown into the hat for the right back spot at Parkhead as The Star have suggested the Bhoys could look to sign Nathan Byrne. Byrne, who is expected to cost something in the region of £1.3m, was an ever-present in Derby County’s side last season, making 42 appearances for Wayne Rooney’s team. He performed solidly in the Championship and was the club’s top provider with four assists.

It appears that any interest from Celtic in the player would be very much as a back up option at this stage, as Postecoglou seems to be keen to pursue Soppy as his primary target. Nevertheless, there are some solid options available to the Hoops.
