There’s no doubt that Celtic’s Champions League exit will make the club less attractive to current players and potential signings, while it appears that Kristoffer Ajer’s future is up in the air again.
A report from HITC has indicated that Ajer could be on the move, so Preston defender Ben Davies has emerged as a possible replacement.
Davies has emerged as a key player for Preston in recent seasons and he’s left footed so that would bring some natural balance to the back line, but his asking price could be a problem – for now.

The report claims that Preston will be looking for £10m to let him go just now, but he’s also in the final year of his deal so Celtic could approach him in January to offer a pre contract agreement and get him for free next summer.
Preston opened their season yesterday with a 4-0 demolition of Mansfield in the cup but Davies was only on the bench, so that could be a sign that they’re preparing to be without him.
He turned 25 earlier this month so this seems like the perfect time for him to test himself at a higher level, so it will be interesting to see how things work out for him.
He’ll probably have offers from Lower Premier League teams but he’ll run the risk of immediate relegation there, so signing for Celtic and winning trophies while playing in Europe should be appealing.
The report goes on to say that no contact has been made at this point, while it’s also hard to see anything happening this summer if Preston stick to that valuation.
