Children’s Charity Receive Donation From Celtic FC Foundation’s Football For Good Fund

PEEK children’s charity in the East End of Glasgow supports young people and families impacted by poverty through play, creative arts and community development projects.

Celtic Football Club was established with the following raison detre published in the club’s first circular:

The main objective of the Celtic Football Club is to supply the East End conferences of the St. Vincent De Paul Society with funds for the maintenance of the “Dinner Tables” of our needy children in the Missions of St Mary’s, Sacred Heart, and St. Michael’s. Many cases of sheer poverty are left unaided through lack of means. It is therefore with this principle object that we have set afloat the “Celtic”, and we invite you as one of our ever-ready friends to assist in putting our new Park in proper working order for the coming football season.

Fitting it is then, that the club should support needy children once more, with a £5000 donation to PEEK, in order to support their PEEKACHEW mobile food truck, which is helping to provide hot meals to those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

PEEK have also supported those who are isolated in their communities with emergency fuel top-ups and delivering over 300 health and wellbeing packages.

A PEEK spokeswoman said: “Due to COVID-19, we have had to stop all of our frontline delivery. However, food has always been a key part of what PEEK do, either through breakfast clubs, school holiday programmes or cooking workshops with children and families, so we have been in a fortunate position to change our operational model quickly to adapt to the needs and demands of the community.

“The donation from Celtic FC Foundation has allowed us to further upscale the meal production and allow us to support families who are self-isolating and who don’t have any other family or community support.

“Through the funds received – we can all play a part in reducing the community transmission of COVID-19 and hopefully reduce the severity of the impact on some of our most vulnerable citizens of Glasgow. A huge thank you to everyone at Celtic FC Foundation for their support.”
