Chris Sutton embarrasses Rangers midfielder after he takes pop at Celtic legend

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has embarrassed Todd Cantwell in a response on Twitter. The Rangers midfielder has been desperate to appease the Ibrox masses since arriving on a free transfer from struggling Norwich City, where he couldn’t make the bench, and in a Twitter post, he criticised pundit Sutton.

Of course Sutton was not going to allow this attack to go pass without comment, seizing the opportunity to leave the Englishman with egg on his face.

In the summer of 2000, Martin O’Neill signed Sutton as he sought to establish Celtic as the dominant force in Scottish football. The ex-Norwich and Blackburn Rovers forward arrived from Chelsea in a deal worth £6m, then the club’s record transfer fee.

Sutton made 199 appearances for the club, scoring 86 times. In this time he would be a roaring success winning four titles, three Scottish Cups and one League Cup. He was a fine player with great instincts, even if he wasn’t the quickest at times. His fantastic vision, eye for goal and almost telepathic link-up with Henrik Larsson made him a key figure in that successful era.

It is fair to say that Sutton was part of the Celtic team that helped break Rangers’ monopoly, funded by David Murray. Even now, Sutton is able to get under the skin of the Rangers players, managers and supporters. This has bee exhibited by Michael Beale taking shots at the BBC and BT Sport pundit, in an attempt to win over the supporters.

Although, Sutton will be making a return to regular coverage of the Scottish game after Sky Sports confirmed that he would be joining them for their coverage of the Cinch Premiership for the new season.
