Clarissa Larisey heading to Sweden as Celtic arrange swap plus fee deal for striker

As we reported earlier today Clarissa Larisey was not in the Celtic FC Women squad for the match against Falkirk as the Hoops began their defence of the Scottish Cup with a thumping 9-0 win at the Falkirk Stadium.

And with Fran Alonso confirming to The Celtic Star earlier this week that transfer activity was imminent in terms of both departures and arrivals but it will come as a huge blow to the Celtic support to learn that we are on the verge of losing the SWPL1’s leading goalscorer and the best player in the women’s game in Scotland.

Clarissa Larisey this season has broken into the Canada national side and they are the current Olympic Champions and one of the top sides heading into the World Cup in the summer. So it was always likely that Larisey would be on the move but that was expected to happen at the end of this season rather than in the January transfer window.

This evening Swedish media outlet fotbollskanalen reports that the 23 year-old Celtic striker is on the verge of signing for Swedish side BK Häcken. They report:

‘Striker Clarissa Larisey joined Celtic in 2021. But after almost two seasons, she is leaving the Scottish club.

‘The Canadian, who has made four international appearances for his country, has been chased by several Swedish clubs, including FC Rosengård and BK Häcken, according to information given to the Football Channel.

‘However, the football channel learns that the 23-year-old is leaning towards going to Hisingslaget. If nothing unforeseen happens, she is expected to sign shortly and will be presented in the yellow and black jersey.

‘Celtic played a match today, Sunday, and then Larisey was not in the squad.

‘Häcken has lost some players for the coming season, among others Livia Peng has been loaned to Levante, Emily Madril will go in the NWSL draft, Lotta Ökvist has signed for Hammarby and Pauline Hammarlund is ready for Fiorentina. However, it has not yet presented any new acquisitions.’

Swedish Women’s Soccer are reporting that the deal to take Clarissa Larisey to BK Häcken could involve a swap and fee coming into Celtic, so that would account for one of Fran Alonso’s new signings.

Here’s Fran Alonso speaking to Celtic TV after the match today but doesn’t address the situation regarding Clarissa Larisey who looks like she has now played her last game for Celtic.

Thanks for the memories Cal and the best of luck in Sweden and at the World Cup.
