This is how the official Manchester City site reported on last night’s defeat to Celtic in the United States…

Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States began with a 4-3 defeat to Celtic in North Carolina.

A first half brace from Nicolas Kuhn and smart Kyogo Furuhashi finish meant City went in behind at the break despite Oscar Bobb also finding the net.

With Celtic’s Scottish Premier League season getting under way in just over one week, their extra sharpness initially told in the Kenan Memorial Stadium’s North Carolina heat.

A defiant second half display, spearheaded by the irrepressible Bobb, pulled City level though with Maximo Perrone and Erling Haaland both on target, but the Scottish champions found a winner through substitute Luis Palma.

After losing 4-3 to Celtic, the Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: “Many things I saw were nice. We created a lot of chances, we scored, we could not control the transitions well, because they are really good with the pace and quality they have.

“They had a better rhythm than us. You have lived through these kinds of situations in the pre-season and we are going to build from here. They (Celtic) linked really well inside. We didn’t cover much well.

“But it is what it is. Sometimes it happens. I give credit for the quality of the opponents.”

Well said Pep, credit should always be given when it’s due.
