Commenting on this hyperventilating transfer window nonsense

I feel the need to comment on this hyperventilating nonsense from Just an Ordinary Bhoy this morning on The Celtic Star concerning the Celtic Board’s efforts to sign players in the summer transfer market.

All good and well. However, a follow-up article should include a list of players we should have signed to add ‘quality’.

What is meant by quality, anyway? And if Celtic is indeed aiming for a higher ‘quality’ that the players recruited last summer, then logically it is going to take more time to get these deals done with players who are more highly regarded in  the game and may have many more attractive options as a result.

Look at the time it is talking to bring in Adam Idah and Paul Bernardo, where it is already common knowledge that both players want to sign of Celtic. Outside of those two, we ar just one of many clubs chasing ‘quality’ signings and many players and their clubs will no doubt be happy to wait to later in the window to secure the best deal possible.

Getting back to the list, it  should include players willing to play in the Scottish Premiership, move to Scotland, players who’d accept the salaries we can afford, without increasing the salaries of  Callum McGregor, Kyogo, Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston… et al.

Signing local seemingly quality players like Lennon Miller would be dismissed as ‘projects’ by Just an Ordinary Bhoy and indeed many Celtic supporters.

As to the desperation to sign a left back, did you note the height of Spain’s left back last night?

It’s not as easy as it seems when you stop to actually think about it.  Let’s give Celtic some time before we start jumping to conclusions. They know what has to be done and hopefully, this time, they will deliver, regardless of what is currently happening over at Ibrox.

  1. 5 fckn months to replace Joe Hart! Initially failing to include a buy clause in Adam Udah’s loan deal!
Taking months to do the Bernardo deal by cheapskate haggling, as per usual!!
Yet wanting top dollar for O’Riley!!!
Even getting all those deals over the line we are no further forward than the SC final.
Bullshit online today about a €9m Winger being looked at!!! Aye right!!
Our board are an embarrassing disgrace, we will NEVER be rated a top European club with that load of shysters at the helm. No club with any ambition sits with £100m in the bank, they make it work on the playing field!!!

Yeh its that easy to replace a leader character and top goalie they should have had Livakovic in the door the day Joe retired.. All the world’s best are clamouring to come to the SPFL and have a go on their plazzy pitches against agricultural opposition. 5 fkin months. sheesh. Take a reality pill

Personally, my patience ran out on this Board a long time ago.
I now will await the “efforts” of the people running Celtic however, if their ambition only stretches to being successful domestically why should I bother to buy a Champions League ticket package ?
I’ll save my money and put it towards my domestic season ticket next year.

100 percent agree with everything you said, I’m sure we’re going to see quality coming through the door.

So many Play Station Football Managers in the Celtic supporter ranks. Want a hard truth? Nah? Well here it is anyway. Celtic are in a difficult position attracting the calibre of player WE ALL want TO SCOTLAND. That’s not because of the country itself. Its because of the piss pot league’s mediocre reputation in Europe and beyond. Players have TURNED Celtic down in initial discussions this summer. This kind of bad PR you won’t read in your rags as it’s kept discrete and hence the cerebrally challenged amongst us believe the club are not trying to sign players. I expect the club to make deals for players we need in the coming days. So many delusionals think just waving the money will have them running to Celtic Park. That delusion is like England fans truly believing they’ll win every tournament they enter before a ball is kicked. I read a well known blogger in Celtic circles and perennial whinger today writing that Celtic won’t spend a penny until O’ Riley is punted. Utter garbage. These players are sought after and have options. Celtic may or may not be of interest. Clubs also often don’t want to sell and play a convoluted game of hardball. Other players are already on double the wages of our top earners. Agents waste time etc etc. It’s a bear pit of a market. Face the reality and cut the whining.

This however is part of the problem.
There are aspects to even drawing up a list. There is no point in putting players on the list who either earn too much or have a profile outwith our reach.
It is the creation of this list and the glacial movement of any negotiations that concern many of us. The fact that we didn’t have a buy clause for Idah in January indicates to me that he was a last minute decision. Did he even make any list ?
Regardless of rules, the list should be assembled by contacting the agent who the asks the play. If the player doesn’t want to come then he doesn’t make the list. Once the list is created then, as we have all witnessed over many years, our negotiations drag on for an age and for that there is no excuse. If the selling club want too much you move on to tge next target.
Perhaps I’m under complicating it but there is no reason for not getting players in unless they are all playing at the Euros and we know that isn’t the case because Idah and Bernardo weren’t there.

  4. Personally don’t have to many issues regarding the anti board brigade, even if some of there views/ opinions can be way over the top at times?
However, I don’t like to be hearing the anti board brigade, when a signing is made and isn’t to there liking?
Simple reason, is I would regard it as more of an attack upon the player themselves, more than upon any board members or Rodgers for bringing them into the club in the first place imo?
That isn’t the type of support that we are, and should never be allowed to develop either?
Wouldn’t totally trust the powers to be within our club, as its there duty to deliver a product (1st team squad) that we can be proud of?
Yet they have managed to do so in general, except from giving our 10iar away to the scum, just to keep them in business at the time imo?
However, our own expectations have grown also, where we can start to become a bigger force within CL football?
If the board did take the decision to dismantle the scum bit by bit, until there is nothing really left of them to be mouthing about, then can’t totally condemn such a decision either?
Yet possibly for the 1st time we enter into a season where the scum hold no relevance to ourselves, yet the least we will be demanding is that a “Proper 55” is achieved by ourselves and the overall lead in the trophy count also imo?
Even so, the CL in its new format, could well allow ourselves to be far more competitive, with growing success achieved also within it?
Yet when this window actually shuts, we will hopefully be in a far better position to judge upon what our ambitions really are, for the season ahead?
I fail to see how people can condemn others upon the work there carrying out, when it’s got 7/8 weeks to run before completion?
Wouldn’t be to many buildings get built, if it was getting condemned before it’s even been built and finished?
Now to what quality the building of our squad will be at in 7/8 weeks time is anyone’s guess at present?
Yet somehow still believe that we will possibly have our strongest overall squad in place ever for CL next season imo?
If that’s in place, shouldn’t the “Proper 55” be a formality also?
If only football was that easy?
