Nothing wrong with confidence but over-confidence is not advisable…
Confidence is high within the Celtic support going into Saturday’s all important Glasgow Derby clash, and with good reason due to our result and performance against Hearts on Saturday and our excellent record against theRangers over the past few years especially at Celtic Park.
Having confidence is always a good thing, it means that you are doing all the right things, but being over confident is another thing entirely. It makes you look arrogant and cocky and that’s something you’re more likely to see in their support rather than ours.
However some Celtic supporters seem to think Saturday is a foregone conclusion, but if you’re thinking that, then you’ve not been paying close attention to our stuttering form this season.
Not only are games such as this unpredictable, we as a team are rather inconsistent within matches and Saturday’s win over Hearts is only one of a handful of times we’ve been excellent throughout an entire 90 minutes of football this topsy turvy campaign.
Yes, theRangers have been a shaky recently, but they have nothing to lose at Celtic Park and as the underdog they will be well up for Saturday, with the title still on the line. Make no mistake about that, they know that anything less than a win will do them so it could be an end-to-end, thrill a minute affair with both teams going for the victory.
Just cast your mind back to the last three derby games this campaign. In each and every single one we were seen as the underdogs due to bad form or an injury crisis. The outcome? We’ve taken seven points out of nine and have been the dominant side in all three games.
Worst case scenario is that this could just as easily flip in favour of theRangers on Saturday at Celtic Park. Football can be so unpredictable. It just takes a moment of luck from the latest Ibrox club, or a moment of indecision from ourselves. Or a bad refereeing decision and we can find ourselves staring down the barrel of a defeat, it’s not impossible.
That said Brendan Rodgers and his Celtic players will approach the game with caution and be fully prepared, they are too experienced not too. If they play to the best of their ability in front of a roaring home crowd then they will win the game, Brendan knows this, so do the players and the supporters who will be at the game, all 60,000 of them Celtic supporters.
The last time there was a Glasgow Derby at Celtic Park when the title was on the line was early February 2022, and the Celtic support (there were no away fans that night) made an incredible atmosphere and theRangers frozen. The game was done by half-time with Celtic 3-0 ahead.
That’s the task for the 60,000 on Saturday. Let’s see if they can handle the heat this time or will once again be bottle merchants.
