UEFA have confirmed the refereeing appointments for Celtic’s trip to face Atalanta. The Scottish Champions will play the UEFA Europa League winners in Bergamo on Wednesday evening in what will be difficult evening.

Celtic will not be able to rely on a sympathetic referee for the game after Bosnian referee Irfan Peljto was confirmed for the game.

The whistler will be assisted by Senad Ibrišimbegović and Davor Beljo with compatriot Antoni Bandić on Fourth Official duties.

Meanwhile, German official Sören Storks is on VAR and he will be assisted by Christian Dingert.

Peljto is known to Celtic fans as the man that sent two players off in their UCL opener last season against Feyenoord.

Celtic were competitive in the game but fell behind just before the break. The plan would have been to keep it tight before Gustaf Lagerbielke was sent off for two yellow cards before Odin Thiago Holm was flashed a red card five minutes later.

Celtic will be hoping to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Borussia Dortmund and take something from the game. Atalanta are strong favourites but a showing of strength from Celtic would show fans that the defeat in Germany was a blip rather than the reality of European football now.
