CELTIC are usually preparing for tough European qualifiers at this time of year instead of watching to see who will win the competition that they entered over a year ago. The Coronavirus pandemic meant that the new competition is delayed until the previous campaign was competed.
The season’s seem to get longer and longer and in recent years, it has been confirmed that Celtic have played the most games in European football in the last six years – an incredible 84 games. John Bradshaw on Twitter has revealed that the Scottish Champions have endured an enormous amount of matches in this period of time, including qualifiers, group stages and knockout matches.
The increase reflects Celtic having to burden the coefficient and in return having more qualifiers to navigate. Hopefully the news that Scotland would be getting more spaces in the Champions League might mean that Celtic (should we win the league) have less qualifiers to compete in next season.
The preparations for the new European journey are already well underway and as Celtic travel to Kilmarnock tomorrow, they will know their Round 1 opponents for the Champions League journey of the 2020/21 season.
