FC Copenhagen manager Ståle Solbakken has admitted that he is pleased by the Europa League Last 32 draw with Celtic as he is confident that the Danish side can progress against the Celtic Park outfit.

At the draw in Nyon today, the Danish side came out the hat to face Neil Lennon’s Celtic.

Despite finishing second in their group to Swedish side Malmo, Solbakken claims that the tie against Celtic remains in the balance and even mentioned the Round of 16 when he spoke to fck.dk, the club’s official site about the draw.

“I think it was a fine draw for us, and we have a fair chance of going to the round of 16,

“It’s an attractive team for our fans, and we had some good fights against them in 2006. I regard our chances as 50/50, so it is a fine opponent for us.”

Celtic have faced Copenhagen before in European action, coming in 2006 when a Kenny Miller penalty separated the sides in Glasgow’s East End and in the reverse it was a 3-1 away defeat for Gordon Strachan’s side.

Neil Lennon played for Celtic in both these clashes and will be relishing the chance to come up against the Danes, especially after their managers comments – the Celts will be hoping to do the dirty work to ensure progression to the Last 16 of the Europa League.

If you can win in Rome, you can win in Copenhagen.
