The Danish club’s Sporting Director was quizzed on the 27-year-old’s future as the player becomes a free agent.

As reported by Record Sport,  the Copenhagen Director has suggested that his club may be looking to retain the Scotland Internationalist on a permanent deal.

“His contract has expired. And our loan here expires on 30 June. Right now we have to deal with that. (But) I don’t want to comment on specific names.”

McKenna has been linked with Celtic at various occasion in his career. The player came through at Aberdeen and developed into a £4m player. Celtic were linked with a permanent move for him in 2019 but no move transpired and the player left for Championship side Nottingham Forest in September 2020.

The player made 118 appearances for Aberdeen, commanding from the back under Derek McInnes. The 5-cap Internationalist then made 106 appearances for Nottingham Forest, including 25 in the Premier League. A fallout with boss Nuno Espírito Santos resulted in the loan move to Copenhagen but he is now free to pick his new team.

Celtic are in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer to supplement the back line. Cameron Carter-Vickers is the first pick but the manager will want a player that can slot in beside him and offer quality on and off the ball.

McKenna played UCL football with Copenhagen and given that the manager rates him, he could be a potential candidate to come into the club.

However there has also been speculation that Brendan Rodgers has spoken to Carl Starfelt about a possible return to Paradise after a fairly difficult time at Celta Vigo in La Liga last season.

  1. Scott mckenna possibly has a few potential offers to think about currently imo?
Still remains unclear as to whether we are actually seriously interested, and potentially the biggest addition mckenna could offer ourselves is possibly with the 8 homegrown quota that we require to fill within our squad imo?
Quality wise, I would still class mckenna as more comfortable in possession of the football than scales imo?
Yet is that good enough in terms of the quality we require as a 1st choice partner for CCV?
The advantages with what mckenna could bring to ourselves, still possibly outweighs the disadvantages imo?
As usual a couple of other names have also been mentioned regarding a position available within our squad, and would like to think it will get resolved over the next couple of weeks?
Wouldn’t have to many complaints in mckenna was to take the available position within our squad next season imo?
But still got positions that take priority over another CB for ourselves also?
