The Billy McNeill Commemoration Committee have been tirelessly fundraising to create a lasting memorial to Celtic’s greatest ever captain, in his home town of Bellshill/Mossend. Committee members were drawn from the local area and have now proudly achieved the necessary funding to complete the project.

Following a meeting last Sunday, the committee proudly announced that they have a date set for the unveiling of a Billy McNeill statue. Sunday 7 August 2022 is the day in question. The exact time is still be confirmed along with the format of the event.

Congratulations to the group on achieving this feat. We trust that the unveiling will be a great day for the Celtic support, and that the statue will provide a fitting tribute to one of Scottish football’s most iconic figures. To have Billy McNeill honoured in his hometown should give immense pride to the people of Bellshill. He was the greatest player the town has ever seen.
