Davie Storrier was a fine full back for Celtic. He had played for Arbroath and Everton before he joined Celtic in 1898, and in season 1898/99 he was capped for Scotland, playing against all three Home countries and won the first of his two Scottish Cup medals.
His second was in 1900, and it was at right back whereas his first Cup medal had been at left back. He was a hard tackler and certainly had the build for a full back, but he occasionally was believed to shirk a tackle and he was even accused of “malingering”, before he returned to his native Arbroath, and to play for Dundee in 1901.
The truth was that he was in the early stages of the tuberculosis which would kill him in 1910. He also played cricket for Arbroath and Forfarshire, and was playing for Forfarshire in that famous game in 1903 at the North Inch, Perth, when a grandstand collapsed and many spectators were injured.
He owned a licensed grocer’s in Panmure Street in Arbroath when he collapsed and died in 1910. He was a much beloved local character. Storrier and Battles was a fine full back pairing in the 1900 Scottish Cup final, but, such were the circumstances of the day, they both died young.
