Declan Gallagher looks set to sign for Aberdeen, despite reportedly coveting a move to boyhood heroes Celtic. Stephen Glass’ Dons, who have already swooped for Celtic captain Scott Brown, are nearing a deal for Gallagher according to The Daily Record.

Gallagher was said to be keen on a dream switch to Celtic but it would appear that the managerless, dethroned Champions have snubbed the opportunity to sign the centre back despite having a shortage at the back ahead of the new season.

The defender has played 26 league games for the Steelmen this season, being a pivotal part of the side that conceded 51 goals. It is the form that would likely fit him into the current Celtic team but it is not the vast improvement that is needed. Therefore, it is likely that Celtic have made the right decision not to sign him.

Gallagher, 29, started his career at Celtic before moving to Clyde then Dundee before Livi. An off-field incident probably hampered any hopes of Gallagher reaching the top of the game but through hard work, he has moved onto become an integral part of the Scotland National Team under Steve Clarke.

Celtic were linked with a move for Gallagher in the January window but the 9IAR Champions opted against signing the player, probably due to Motherwell’s poor defensive record and the fact that Celtic appeared to be in a tail spin. The player was unlikely to improve Celtic and a move to Aberdeen looks ideal for him.
