Defence is clearly the priority for Brendan Rodgers

Celtic in the past 24 hours have been heavily linked with centre backs Xavier Mybuyamba of Volendam and Legia Warsaw’s Maik Nawrocki.

Defence is clearly an area we need improvement in and it looks like Brendan Rodgers is making moves to rectify this.

It would be great if we landed both and it’s well within our capabilities. But in all likeliness we will purchase just the one and according to reports, polish centre back Nawrocki looks most likely with a substantial bid being tabled by the club, and Nawrocki’s side Legia Warsaw are more than happy with the fee, despite interest from Galatasaray.

Nawrocki looks like a decent prospect and he just missed out on a place in the Polish World Cup squad. He’s a tall strong lad and is comfortable on either foot, he’s also a danger at set pieces scoring four times in the polish Ekstraklasa last season. He’s a player that would be a welcome addition to the side and more than first team ready.

Any move for Mybuyamba at this moment doesn’t look as concrete as a move for Nawroki, but according to credible sources Celtic have been credited with an interest. Mybuyamba is likened to countryman and former Celt Virgil Van Djik. He’s tall strong and Athletic and comfortable on the ball, he’s can also slot in at right back, an area we are lacking bodies in at the moment.

So will any of these proposed moves come to fruition? It’s likely one will get over the line, but unlikely we will see two new central defenders, although getting two players of that qualify in the door should be what we’re aiming for.

And his side’s comical defending in the opening game of the trip to Japan will have done little to convince Brendan Rodgers that he doesn’t need to worry about the defence.
