Ronny Deila is set to swap Valerenga for New York after the Norwegian became the front runner to become the favourite for the NYCFC job, according to The Scottish Sun.

The 44-year-old could be the man to replace Dome Torrent at the helm of the City Football Group’s New York club. Deila is highly regarded amongst the club’s hierarchy after his title winning season at Stromsgodset as well as his two years at Celtic.

Deila recently signed a new deal, albeit on reduced wages so he could be open to the concept of a new challenge in America.

Ronny replaced Neil Lennon as Celtic manager in 2014 and won two successive Leagues as well as a League Cup. Deila decided to leave the club after the strain that it had on him resulted leaving his role.

Deila played an impressive brand of football and his Celtic team probably would have won a Treble in their first season after a horrendous refereeing decision cost them the chance to win the Scottish Cup. Deila is fondly remembered as being a nice guy but unfortunately, the job was too big for him.
