Dundee manager James McPake has said that Leigh Griffiths has trained with the Dens Park club but that they are still seeking clarity from Celtic as discussions continue over the 31-year-old’s future. Griffiths has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks as he has struggled to impress since arriving at Dundee on loan back in the summer.
As reported by the Daily Record, McPake said that the striker had been involved with the Dark Blues during a bounce game against Forfar, scoring and assisting twice. However, the player as still the subject of discussions regarding whether Griffiths will be sent back or if he will remain at Dundee.
“He trained today and has trained all week. He scored in a game against Forfar on Tuesday night and set up two goals as well.
“We are still in dialogue with Celtic, it is ongoing and we are awaiting clarity on that.
“There is dialogue going on with Celtic regarding a couple of things.”
Ange Postecoglou indicated that Griffiths wasn’t wanted back at Celtic, suggesting that the player is not only playing for his Dundee future but his future as a top flight footballer. With 123 goals to his name at Celtic, Griffiths has always had a reputation as a goalscorer but two goals in thirteen games for Dundee have left many underwhelmed with his return to Dens Park.
Dundee had been in discussions with Celtic over the potential loan deal for Osaze Urhoghide but McPake stated that these negotiations had faltered.
