Djurgarden v Celtic Match Preview

Celtic FC Women return for the first time since winning the SWPL title tomorrow for their first pre-season game against Djurgarden.

The Ghirls departed for Sweden yesterday and enjoyed their first day in the country, but the focus quickly moves back to the football.

The last time Celtic were in action, they beat Hibs 1-0 at Paradise on the final day of the season. Amy Gallacher scored THAT goal to secure the title for the first time in the club’s history, and the wait for the new campaign couldn’t have felt longer.

Elena Sadiku spoke to The Celtic Star in the off-season and we couldn’t be more excited at what she said. She clearly has Champions League ambitions and wants to take the club to new heights, so our full backing is behind the boss.

Team News

With six arrivals and eight departures, the squad may look a bit different from this time last season. Notably, there will be no Tash Flint, Paula Partido, Shen Menglu or Shen Mengyu on the teamsheet.

I’m hoping to see a few of our new signings take to the pitch in the Hoops for the first time. Shannon McGregor looks like she’s going to be brilliant in the midfield, and the Danish twins both look extremely promising.

Saoirse Noonan is another new signing (who we recently interviewed) and we may look to test the waters with her in pre-season. It’ll be hard for anyone to knock Amy Gallacher out of her starting position up-front, but depending on what Elena wants to play, there could certainly be space for the Irish international, especially with the departure of Flint.

I’d also expect to see Bruna Lourenço either tomorrow or in our second match against Hammarby. I think Elena could have a look at a back four as opposed to the tactics from last season, so keep an eye out for that.

I’d love to see Amy Richardson on the bench at least. She’s only 18 years old but I hope that Elena can see past that and give her opportunities over the course of the season. She’s a player who I think can be crucial for us, and maybe even make us a big profit in the future.

Kick-off Time

The game kicks off at 13:00 Celtic Park time as we take on Kelsey Daugherty’s former side.

Where to Watch

Celtic vs Djurgarden will be played at Stockholm Stadium. Supporters travelling to support the Celts can back the Ghirls for free as our opponents are offering free entry for the game. A lovely gesture!

The game will not be broadcast.

Score Prediction

I predict a nice 2-0 for the Celts. Failing that, a draw. No pressure on this one since it’s only a pre-season friendly so I think that it’ll be a great chance for some of our players to build up fitness without worrying about the score.

COYGIG!

UPDATE: Just to confirm that the match won’t be broadcast. Apparently Djurgarden tried to set up production but it didn’t happen, Jessica.
