Celtic have this afternoon confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong has left the club to sign for Bundesliga side Leverkusen. The transfer fee is believed to be £11.5million with the former Manchester City Academy star signing a four year contract at his new club.

Celtic confirmed the news via the club’s Twitter handle and thanked Frimpong for his contribution to the club, wishing him all the best for his future career. Leverkusen also confirmed the transfer had gone through as the same time as Celtic.

Celtic were keen to retain the player who broke into the first team almost straight away after arriving from City but it became clear to manager Neil Lennon and the club’s Head of Football operations Nick Hammond that the 20 year old Dutch born right back wanted to leave the club. Last night he made a cryptic remark via an Instagram account suggesting that his demands had not been met by Celtic.

We wish him all the best for his time in German football.
