Eddie Howe dramatically told Celtic that he would no longer be taking over as the manager of the Glasgow club on Friday afternoon. The 43-year-old had been Celtic’s preferred candidate to replace Neil Lennon but due to being unable to attract his desired backroom team, he decided to withdraw himself from the process.

However, The Daily Record is reporting that Howe also raised a security concern to the club likely in the shocking attack on Peter Lawwell’s home and the scenes of devastation in George Square. For the soft spoken Howe, this must have been quite intimidating and given the issues with being unable to hire his staff, you can see why Howe was spooked.

Celtic’s outgoing CEO Lawwell and incoming Chief Exec Dominic McKay believed that they had their man with an agreement in place only for a U-Turn from Howe meaning a move was made for Ange Postecoglou. The Australian manager was not widely known by the support but the club are believed to rate him very highly given his successes as Australian National Team boss as well as titles in the A-League and the J-League.

The club are pushing forward with the appointment of Postecoglou, which will be a risk but it is better than giving the job to someone that appeared to have reservations about coming to Glasgow in the first place.
