Eddie Howe set for £2m salary at Celtic, according to report

Eddie Howe is set to take home an enormous £2m salary, according to a report.

The 43-year-old Englishman is favourite to become the next manager at Celtic Park with a move set to be finalised in the coming weeks. However, the former Bournemouth manager is quietly preparing to take the reins at Paradise and is looking at preparing a backroom staff.

The Scottish Sun reported yesterday that Howe would be earning a huge salary as Dermot Desmond looks to step up his investment in Celtic by attracting a young, highly rated manager to help regain the league title. The report was mainly about the fact that John Kennedy had become one of the contenders for the Celtic Sporting Director role.

Howe is said to be courting the opinion of former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as he nears a deal to bring him to Paradise. The Englishman is likely waiting to see if his former club get promoted before plotting a raid to take his former coaching staff to Glasgow. Celtic are expected to undertake an enormous overhaul under Dominic McKay. McKay is set to herald in a new era in wake of the end of the 9IAR run and Quadruple Treble successes. Celtic need a big investment on and off the field to make up for the poor year and truthfully a managed decline from Rodgers’ era. If the report is true and Howe is attracting a salary in that region, it bodes well that a sizeable investment is incoming.

  1. If the main delay appointing Howe is seeing if he can pick the coaching staff he needs, that makes sense (finally) – depending on Bournemouth’s promotion or not. I guess we’d hope they don’t? So that the staff quickly leave to join Howe. As for the DoF role, I’d imagine Howe and Desmond/McKay have reached some agreement on this, mainly that Celtic will be choosing this appointment and at best Hughes is made head of recruitment, even if he is based far away. Not sure that might work, maybe the compromise has been Howe being able to choose all of his staff to work directly for him. That would make more sense and then the DoF role…..I’ve no doubt Harkin and Howe would actually get on and be on the same page with regards to wanting the same results – success. Guess it’s just a short wait now. Ideally Friday 30th but perhaps next week we’ll see the unveiling
