Elena Sadiku praises supportive Celtic Board

Elena Sadiku believes that Celtic FC Women are headed in the right direction, and the manager is happy with the support she has received from the Celtic Board…

Speaking to the media, including The Celtic Star, after Celtic’s 9-0 SWPL victory over Dundee United, Sadiku said: “We’re taking steps as a team but it also shows that the club are really investing in us. They want to make sure that we get the conditions to be the best we can be and I’m really happy for that.

“We get the support from Michael Nicholson and Chris Duffy from the board as well so I think we’re headed in the right direction together,” Elena Sadiku said.

From an outside perspective, there have been some concerns that the club are not putting their money where their mouth is. For years now, Celtic have been promoting the SWPL but promising players with sell-on potential have still been allowed to stay at the club on rolling contracts until recently.

It seems that with the arrival of the Swedish head coach, things are changing for the better, and the signings that she has made in the transfer window have really proven that.

The Carsten twins and Amy Richardson in particular stand out as they are all young players whose transfer value could rise significantly if they perform whilst at the club. Richardson is currently out injured but both Signe and Mathilde both performed on their double debut at Paradise, showing the quality that we have on our hands.

Elena is also passionate about getting more fans out to support the Ghirls, saying: “I feel like we should be one club and have a one club mentality. We, as a club, wrote history.

“We were the first team where the men and women won the league in the same season. The first time ever. And that’s something that I think should be more acknowledged. Also because I feel that my players deserve the best.

“I’m really happy with the fans that attended today [at Celtic Park]and that shows that we have a great fanbase. But I believe we can do more with our fans.”
