Anthony Joseph has reported that two English Championship sides are interested in Matt O’Riley.
According to Sky Sports reporter, Anthony Joseph, Leeds United and Southampton have shown interest in the Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley. The Danish U21 players impressed many in Celtic’s Treble victory last season.
Being a consistent starter in the Celtic squad, O’Riley has attracted the wondering eyes of clubs down south, with Leeds and Southampton most recently being named. However, the chances of O’Riley leaving the Hoops (who have Champions League football this year) for a Championship side are slim.
Furthermore, O’Riley has shown promise under Brendan Rodgers, scoring twice in the first few games of the season. It’s likely that Brendan views O’Riley as a key player in the squad and would be reluctant to lose him at any stage, never mind this stage in the window. O’Riley also commented that he was enjoying working with Brendan to better his skills on the field.
Although the chances of a move to either of these clubs are extremely low, many Celtic players have chosen to exit the Hoops to join Southampton, with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Stuart Armstrong, Victor Wanyama, and Fraser Forster making the transfer.
However, it is worth noting that these players moved to Southampton whilst it was in the Premier League.
There’s a good summary on this from Just an Ordinary Bhoy on The Celtic Star this morning that’s well worth a read…
