EX-CELT JONNY HAYES is a doubt for Sunday’s match between Aberdeen and Celtic at Pittodrie. The Irishman pulled up with a groin complaint in the 4-2 win over Hamilton Accies and now looks set to miss the visit of his former club.
The Daily Record are reporting that he is a major doubt for the league match and the Scottish Cup semi-final the following weekend. Which is good news for The Scottish Champions considering he scored in his last appearance for Aberdeen against Celtic.
Hayes was a popular squad player with both his teammates and the support appreciative of his 100% commitment to the jersey. His goal at Ibrox last September will be mentioned as a favourite moment but don’t forget that perfectly timed challenge inside the penalty box in Rennes in the Europa League last season – the commitment, the timing and ant determination to win the ball were all at 100% levels and that summed up Hayes in a Celtic jersey.
It is a must win for Celtic after stuttering in the 2-0 defeat to Rangers on Saturday, a defeat which opens a 4 point gap at the top of the SPFL (albeit Celtic have a game in hand over Aberdeen). Neil Lennon will be hoping to get his players up for the game and spark a turn around after some turgid performances this season.
