Former Celtic midfielder Mark Fotheringham is keen on the vacant Dunfermline Athletic managerial vacancy, according to a report. The Courier is reporting that the ex-Celtic kid wants to be considered for the role at East End Park after Peter Grant left the role on Sunday.
The 4-2 defeat away to Arbroath on Saturday left Dunfermline winless in twelve and rooted to the base of the Championship. The Centenary hero took over in the summer but failed to really impress after his switch from Alloa to Dunfermline.
Fotheringham actually opened up on the links to The Sun, saying he would be keen to speak to the people at Dunfermline after spells coaching in Germany with Ingolstadt and Karlsruhe.
“I’m flattered to be linked with the job. Dunfermline is a big club with a strong fan-base while I am aware of the German ownership.
“I am a huge admirer of German football and had a great period at Ingolstadt working with Tomas Oral where we took them to promotion.
“I’ve never ruled out coaching again in Scotland and would be happy to speak with the people at Dunfermline. “I am ambitious for my next move and it has to be something that excites me.”
Fotheringham made his debut in Celtic’s 0-0 draw with St Johnstone at the end of the 1999-2000 season. However, the arrival of Martin O’Neill limited his outings thereafter to just two first-team appearances. The German ownership at the Fife club may mean that the link is utilised to allow for a coach with the knowledge of both Scottish and German football to kickstart the season in Scotland’s second tier.
