Former Celtic midfield favourite Stuart Armstrong is available as a free agent this summer after leaving Southampton. The 32-year old is on Scotland duty preparing for the Euros but it has been confirmed that he will be leaving the Saints, despite being promoted to the Premier League.

Russell Martin’s side confirmed that the midfielder would depart at the end of his contract.

Fiorentina and Fulham are reportedly interested in bringing the player in, who will be an attractive prospect given his experience and lack of a price tag.

Celtic sold Armstrong in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth in excess of £7m. The departure was inevitable as Armstrong clearly wanted to have a crack at the Premier League. If he does move on this summer, Celtic will miss out on the sell-on fee included in the deal to sell him to the South Coast side.

Armstrong was a top player for Celtic, really kicking on under Brendan Rodgers and helping Celtic towards a Double Treble. After signing alongside Gary Mackay-Steven, Armstrong went onto make 144 appearances for Celtic, scoring 28 times and racking up 25 assists.
