Fabrizio Romano – Celtic closing in on deal to sign Kasper Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel looks like he is about to be re-united with his former boss at Leicester City as Celtic finally get set to sign a replacement for Joe Hart.

Brendan Rodgers will of course have given this move the green light and the fact that the Denmark keeper is available on a free transfer will help make the financial aspects of the deal doable from Celtic’s perspective.

Kasper Schmeichel’s contract with Anderlecht expired at the end of June and the keeper is now available as a free agent. However Schmeichel is not short of offers with Wolves among the clubs keen to secure his signature for perhaps his last contract as a player.

The chance to work again with Rodgers, to play in the Champions League and to experience something very special that Joe Hart enjoyed thoroughly over his last three years playing the game, may swing this in Celtic’s favour.

And there’ every indication that Celtic will sign a second goalkeeper this summer although not another one in his late thirties…

  1. As greatful as its looking to finally be getting a keeper signed, I somehow don’t think that kasper is definitely going to be our no1 keeper imo?
Think we will be getting in another keeper but possibly couldn’t guarantee that another keeper could be got in before the USA tour?
Think Bain could well be regarded as our no3 keeper, but Clark or Tobi might come into consideration also?
Also Rodgers might intend to use his no2 keeper for cup matches, which could possibly appeal to kasper if he shouldn’t secure the no1 keeper position?
Sort of squad building Rodgers will look to install, where no given player is definitely going to be considered as a definite starter in matches?
To put such a plan into action would require that better competition for starting positions is in play for ourselves?
Wouldn’t say having kasper as no1 keeper with Bain as a no2 keeper is Rodgers plans for the season ahead imo?
Well still hoping that’s not the case either?
