Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester City have held initial talks with Celtic over a deal for Kyogo Furuhashi. The 29-year-old missed Celtic’s 3-1 win over Hibs following a knock to his shoulder but now, it appears that the hitman is wanted by Pep Guardiola’s City.

Speaking on Twitter/X, Romano stated that Kyogo is one of the options for the English Champions as they look to provide backup for Erling Haaland.

It is worth mentioning that Romano has cited Kyogo as a winger in his update, which is certainly not the case. It may be laziness in reporting what other have already said but it is unlikely that Kyogo would be considered as a wide option for City.

Rumbles earlier on, which were first reported by The Celtic Star, were then followed by The Athletic revealing that Kyogo was on a two-man shortlist for City. It appears that there is genuine interest from City, which would be quite challenging to Celtic at this stage in the window.

Kyogo made the surprise decision to switch agents to CAA Base earlier this summer. The update was welcomed with apprehension from the Celtic support, who remember the agency’s influence in aiding Ange Postecoglou’s move to Spurs.
