Fabrizio Romano provides Kasper Schmeichel update

Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Kasper Schmeichel. The 37-year-old is a Premier League winner from the famous Leicester success of 2016 but will be looking to earn silverware in Scotland as he links up with Brendan Rodgers again.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update to confirm that an announcement is imminent. Taking to Twitter/X, Romano confirmed that the Danish Internationalist would sign a deal for one year but with an option to extend.

The player is set to complete a medical with a deal expected to be announced this weekend.

Celtic can buy themselves time by bringing in a seasoned No.1 like Schmeichel as they look to prepare to bring in a younger No.1 to replace him in the long term. This could be a precursor to moving for Kelleher in the next couple of years, potentially.

Kinda strange given his age .. but, apart from Kelleher, biggest & best name we’ve been linked with.

Guy will be a huge character in the dressing room (as Joe Hart was) & he is still a first choice international player with undoubted quality. Guy was worth at least ten points a season to Leicester by himself. Maybe also make oor other Dane Matt oRiley think twice about leavin as def that Danish manager watchin some Celtic games next season.

I’m all for it! We know what we’re gettin when we sign him. We now don’t have to worry about another feckin Barkas!

Dino Zoff won the World Cup in 82 as Italian keeper & captain when he was 40, looked 60 AND smoked 80 fags a day!
