Fabrizio Romano provides unwanted Matt O’Riley transfer update

Fabrizio Romano has said that Celtic are close to agreeing a deal to sell Matt O’Riley to Brighton. The Italian journalist confirmed that the Dane is nearing a switch to the Premier League for what will hopefully be a record transfer fee.

Speaking on Twitter/X, Romano confirmed that a deal was close with a verbal agreement almost done.

You would imagine that Celtic will only sell if a fee of £30m is tabled with a sell-on. Given Brighton’s model is based upon buying and selling, which would suit Celtic for further cash from the deal. It is a shame to see a player as talented leave but not only that, the 23-year-old is so humble about the hard work that goes into success. Moreover, he also loves Celtic and the fans along with the atmosphere they create.

Celtic have fended off interest from Atalanta for O’Riley with Brendan confirming that the club didn’t need to sell but if the valuation was met then they would entertain discussions. There was an inevitability that O’Riley would be the subject of intense interest but it would ultimately be a decision for the player.
