Football insider, Fabrizio Romano has commented on Matt O’Riley’s recent links with Leeds United, saying that a move is a ‘possibility’ before the end of the transfer window.

It seems that Leeds United are committed to improving their midfield, and with this in mind, their eyes have turned to Celtic’s Matt O’Riley as a prime target. O’Riley is contracted to Celtic until June 2026, but the English Championship side are looking to attempt to sign O’Riley and take him down south.

However, it is unlikely that Brendan Rodgers will want to lose Matt O’Riley, as he has become an important part of the Celtic squad, as he has been a consistent starter so far for Rodgers. Furthermore, Celtic and O’Riley both have Champions League football to look forward to in the coming weeks, whereas Leeds do not, so it is even more unlikely that this move will happen.

In any case, speaking again to Give Me Sport, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the situation and left the possibility hanging, as he reckons Leeds will be busy in the closing hours of the transfer window. Romano said…

“I think it could be a possibility, yes. They are discussing still internally about that and waiting to see if they can attack the situation in the next hours. But yes, I think this could be a possibility and I still expect Leeds to be busy in the finals days of the window. So, that remains one of the options for sure.”

Celtic players who are doing well at the club are always going to attract interest so it’s no real surprise that clubs like Leeds are interested in signing him. What does surprise us however is the lack of talk about Celtic offering a new contract to the English born Danish U21 international midfielder. So far Celtic have extended the contracts of Kyogo and Daizen Maeda and are in negotiations with Liel Abada and Reo Hatate but so far we’ve not heard of this happening with Matt O’Riley.  Surely he’s next?
