“For the 40th time, our Bhoys have won the Cup. Enjoy it,” David Potter celebrates Celtic’s Quadruple Treble

OK, let’s forget for a moment about 12 trophies in a row and quadruple trebles. We have now won 40 Scottish Cups while the next best is 33, so it’s probable that I will die with Celtic having won more Scottish Cups than anyone else! What a thought to take with me to eternity and paradise and all these other places! We have also won four Scottish Cups in a row which no-one else has ever done!

But OK, let’s talk about the game. Frankly, we did our best to lose it, and if my arm is twisted I would probably have to say that Hearts were the better team in the second half and possibly even in extra tie, and that Celtic really did not deserve to win for their inability to STAY on top. My money in the penalty shoot out would, frankly, have been on Hearts especially when Ryan Christie missed his penalty, But well done, Conor Hazard! A nervous performance in the 120 minutes, but he turned up trumps in the penalty shoot-out!

So leaving aside individual performances which were like the curate’s egg – good in patches! – where does this leave Celtic for the remaining 28 games? 23 League games and then 5 Scottish Cup games, because the 2021 competition begins in a month’s time. I think we now should keep Neil Lennon. After all, he has won 5 of the last 12 trophies, has he not? Give him a chance, and then we can review things at the end of the season.

The next two statements will be greeted with howls of derision, but I will say them nevertheless. I thought Mr Beaton had a good game, and I am sorry for Hearts. They really fought back well, and are a far nicer lot without their embittered and unpleasant supporters. But today they put up a fight and on another day might have won.

Isn’t Martin O’Neill looking old these days? He is another one who should never have left Parkhead, but he still knows his stuff! As did the other two pundits, although like us, they all thought that Celtic were home and dry at half time!

Celtic had some awful moments – the first goal, that awful moment when Jullien and Duffy left it to each other and nearly let Hearts score, and the third goal which could also have been prevented, But I liked Callum McGregor, Mikey Johnston, Kristoffer Ajer and Leigh Griffiths – but well done everyone, and enjoy your evening! 2020 has been an awful year for everyone, and we deserve something! For the 40th time, our bhoys have won the Cup! Enjoy it!
