Forget about next week, today is all about Celtic beating St Mirren

Forget about next week. Today is all we should be thinking about…

With a Glasgow Derby pending next week, naturally that’s all the SMSM and a big majority of supporters seem to be talking about, but before then we have a tough game to negotiate against St Mirren at The SMiSA Stadium this lunchtime.

The Buddies are usually a tough side to crack especially at home, and are a well drilled side under Stephen Robinson, so today is anything but a forgone conclusion. We’ve started the season in good form and if we take that level of football into today’s game then we have more than a good chance, but it’s anything but a sure thing.

We must show determination to match our undoubted ability to leave Paisley with the three points, that’s imperative. There’s also the small matter of us missing one of our most valuable players in Matt O’Riley who is of course on the verge of signing for Brighton.

Paulo Bernardo will most likely step in and while not as influential as Matt he will still give us an injection of quality in the middle of the park. Kyogo is reportedly also back in the squad so we should have a full strength side available so there can be no excuses for any failure.

I expect that the team will be Kasper Schmeichel in goals, a back four of Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo in the middle of the park and a front three of Nicolas Kuhn, Kyogo and Daizen Maeda.

Today’s starting eleven barring injuries will most likely be the Celtic team that takes the field next Sunday against theRangers as any new signings this week (no laughing at the back) are unlikely to be thrown straight into the deep end by Brendan Rodgers.

Get the job done today Celtic and then concentrate on next week. As they say the most important game is the next one, and that one is today.
