Former Celt Cillian Sheridan successfully tricks the internet into believing rumour about the Spurs ballboy

Cillian Sheridan has had a decent career, he was never good enough for the top level but had some nice spells in Scotland with Kilmarnock and St Johnstone.

He currently splits his time playing for an Israeli team and trying to wind people up online. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, his Twitter account is well worth a follow. He managed to fool a few press outlets with a tweet that went viral last night.

There was a moment during Spurs’ comeback win over Olympiacos where a ball boy showed some quick thinking and played a small part in setting up a goal. Jose Mourinho went straight over to him to acknowledge his efforts, which as you can imagine the English Press absolutely loved.

That led to this effort from Sheridan:

It initially looked like it might get a couple of bites, only it started to go viral. Former Liverpool player Ronnie Whelan retweeted it and it started to gather some momentum.

There were a few people suddenly trying to spread the rumour about the ballboy being Mourinho’s son, which some of the more low quality outlets tried to run with:

You could probably argue that he should find something better to do with his spare time, but it’s still pretty funny to watch people think they have some kind of exclusive hot take that’s actually nonsense.

He needs to lie low for a while now so he can re-emerge and catch people out again in a few months once they’ve forgotten.

As an aside wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing to see if a ball boy was able to contribute to a big Celtic goal like the one Spurs sold last night. There’s a chance of glory Celtic ball boys!  Think quick and get the ball back to The Bhoys as soon as possible!
