It does seem like every single story about Fraser Forster presents us with a completely different reality of his wage packet at Southampton, and it seems to be getting higher too.
It seems fair to think that he’s on more money down there than Celtic could ever reasonably afford, so it does present an issue this Summer.

For Celtic to keep him, they either need him to take a pay cut, or Southampton to take a hit and agree to keep paying some of his salary just to get him out the door.
That might be possible, but former player Mark Wilson doesn’t seem to be positive about a long term stay for Forster.
The Sun reported on his views of the out of contract and loan players this Summer, and his comments about Forster were particularly interesting:
“It’s going to be incredibly hard to try and convince Fraser to take a drop from £90,000-a-week and I mean that in the best possible respect to Fraser.”
“I think he loves Celtic. You can see how much he enjoys performing in that pressure environment for the club.”
“But I think if you take anybody in any employment and they’re on such a substantial amount of money and ask them to take such a substantial drop, it’s asking a lot. That’s going to be difficult.”
“If it suited all parties a loan would probably be the best deal again. He’s surplus to requirements at Southampton just now. They’re getting a substantial amount of his wage paid by Celtic and it suits all parties so I think that could probably be the best route to go down.”
It’s amazing that there’s never been any talk of Southampton wanting him back after some great displays for Celtic and some average attempts from their current keepers, but that’s a good thing from a Celtic point of view.
It also makes you wonder how much Celtic would be able to pay him each week – breaking the wage structure for a keeper would be a risky move, and it could have a knock on effect with any future transfers or extensions for current players.
It does sound like he wants to stay and Celtic want to keep him, so let’s hope there’s a way to make it happen.
