Former Celtic favourite Jota has been confirmed by Stade Rennais as the Superstar from Portugal returns to Europe. The 25-year-old left for Saudi last year in a £25m deal but the move didn’t work out at all.

Jota was heavily linked with a return to Celtic at various stages but he’s now returned to Europe, moving to Rennes for €8m.

It is good to see Jota back in Europe after a difficult spell in Jeddah with Al Ittihad. Jota wasn’t the high profile signing that the Saudi Pro League envisaged as he arrived from Celtic.

Jota made 83 appearances for Celtic as they won five trophies. In those games, he scored 28 goals and assisted on 26 occasions, which resulted in links to a number of clubs.

Hopefully Jota gets back playing and enjoying his football after a year in the footballing wilderness. Celtic have been looking to strengthen by bringing quality into the first team but mainly looking at left backed centre back and centre mid. Arne Engels is expected to sign for £11m with Auston Trusty having already been confirmed on a £6m deal.
