Former Celtic hero Peter Grant has been sacked as manager of Dunfermline Athletic. The Pars were beaten 4-2 away to Arbroath with a winless start to the season meaning that the decision was made to relieve the ex-Celtic midfielder of his duties.
The defeat to Arbroath at the weekend resulted in a Grant receiving his marching orders. The club said at the beginning of the month after a defeat that they still retained belief in Grant’s abilities to rectify their situation and lead a claim up the table. However, the former Celtic hero was unable to address the situation at Dunfermline and leaves with them bottom of the table.
The 55-year-old made 483 appearances for Celtic across a fifteen-year period and had been linked with a return to coaching at Celtic Park; however, as Eddie Howe’s ill-fated courting with Celtic ended, so too did any links to Celtic as Grant joined Dunfermline.
Celtic instead opted for Ange Postecoglou as the rebuild in Glasgow’s East End rumbles on with the Australian looking to bounce back from a disappointing home draw against Livingston.
