Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong set for MLS switch

Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong is set to make the switch to the MLS. The 32-year-old has been a free agent since the summer and had been training with Brentford.

However, Armstrong is set to make a move to Vancouver Whitecaps in a fairly bizarre move from a player that could still be performing at a decent level.

According to Record Sport, Armstrong is set to make the move to the Canadian outfit as he goes to compete in the MLS with ex-Dundee United teammate Ryan Gauld.

Armstrong was released by Southampton after failing to agree new terms following their promotion to the Premier League. Celtic sold Armstrong in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth in excess of £7m. The departure was inevitable as Armstrong clearly wanted to have a crack at the Premier League.

Armstrong was a top player for Celtic, really kicking on under Brendan Rodgers and helping Celtic towards a Double Treble. After signing alongside Gary Mackay-Steven, Armstrong went onto make 144 appearances for Celtic, scoring 28 times and racking up 25 assists.
