FORMER CELTIC target John McGinn scooped the two main awards at the Aston Villa End of Season Awards last night. The midfielder who waited all of last summer on Celtic concluding his transfer to Paradise before joining Villa on the last day of the English transfer window in mid-August picked up the Players Player of the Year and the Supporters Player of the Year and rather remarkably missed out on the Aston Villa Goal of the Season – despite his wonder-strike against Sheffield Wednesday being in the running.

That goal should have been their goal of the century?

Did anyone hear Radio Scotland’s Sports Bulletin at 7.30am this morning? They were discussing Messi’s wonderful free kick against Liverpool – featuring the two former Celts Virgil Van Dijk and Andy Robertson – last night and reckoned that while it as a great goal, the one scored by Rangers star Davie Cooper in the League Cup Final against Aberdeen in the 1980s was better! Remarkable!

You can watch that John McGinn goal below – he lost out to the first goal you’ll see, surely not says you!

McGinn’s transfer valuation has soared over the past 9 months and there are suggestions that there could be some interest in him from Premiership clubs, particularly if Villa fail to get promotion through the play-offs.

Maybe Rodgers will come back in for him and take him to Leicester City? One thing is for sure, John McGinn is now well out of Celtic’s price range. He’s the one that got away…
