Brendan Rodgers insists securing a top-four place for Leicester City would match any of the honours he achieved as Celtic gaffer. That just goes to show how little respect he had for making history when he walked out on the club mid-way through the chase for a treble treble.

Rodgers was a hero with the Celtic support, who were sucked into his claims about boyhood fandom and travelling over to watch the club as a child. He won a double treble with the Hoops, including an Invincible domestic season in 2016-17. In total his Celtic side achieved an incredible 69 domestic matches unbeaten before they finally came unstuck against Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Irishman picked up seven trophies in Scotland before jumping ship to Leicester, where he’s now targeting Champions League football. Yet asked if he’d be as proud of a top-four place for the Foxes he told Leicester TV: “If we were to do it, it would be up there. Celtic were a different challenge. We got into the Champions League and won a few trophies, fantastic.

“Coming to Leicester there’s not that expectancy. My challenge was: ‘Could I take the club to the top six?’ We’ve done that in our first full season. Now our goal is to arrive in the top four.”

Leicester were beaten 3-0 by Spurs today, leaving the door wide open for Manchester United to overtake them in the race for the top four.
