Fran Alonso’s delight as four new Celtic signings confirmed on Deadline Day

Celtic FC Women made four signings yesterday. We reported on two last night so we’ll catch up on everything that’s happened as best we can today. The Celtic FC Women website doesn’t seem to be getting updated, maybe like the Celtic View, that’s another aspect of our club that’s gone into cold storage?

Has there even been an explanation given for this? The Celtic View simply tweeted that they’d be suspended until further notice. The Women’s game is currently suspended due to the pandemic enforced Government restrictions but three Celtic players have left the club and yesterday four arrived as manager Fran Alonso acts to gear up for the second half of the season with Celtic involved in a three way battle for the title with Glasgow city and theRangers.

So an update. Three players left the club over the past few weeks. We lost the two Spanish players Anita Marcos and Brenda Castellano with both deciding to remain in Spain after returning home for Christmas. One of the girls cited that the health crisis in Scotland due to the coronavirus was the reason that she’d made the decision to leave Celtic.

Then at the end of last week American striker Summer Green also reached the same conclusion, leaving Fran Alonso well short in the strikers department and in need of new recruits. Yesterday in a frantic day for the Celtic FC Women’s manager he secured four additions to his squad.

First to arrive was Australian attacker Jacynta Galabadaarachchi who joined from Napoli after having a spell at West Ham. Jacynta Galabadaarachchi is the shortened version of her name, as we explained last night. It’s actually Jacynta Prema de Nieva Galabadaarachchi – so if she finds the back of the net on a regular basis wearing the Hoops, there will be a few bob to be made in the club shop sticking all those letters onto the back of her shirt.

Next to arrive at Celtic FC Women yesterday was American striker Mariah Lee who signed from NWSL side OL Reign.

That’s as far as we got last night on what was a busy day on The Celtic Star. So catching up here are the details on the other new signing for the Celtic FC Women’s side.

Then Celtic announced the signing of Irish international defender Izzy Carolan Aitkinson, who joins the club from Shelbourne FC.

Shelbourne also acknowledged the transfer as did current Celtic star Keeva Keenan.

So with three stars signed, Celtic then advised the supporters of the Women’s team to stay tunes for another one and the fourth signing was duly announced with Welsh international defender Anna Filbey joining on loan from Tottenham.

Then this morning the manager tweeted on his four new signings. “Delighted with our 4 new Ghirls in Green!,” the impressive Spanish manager wrote. “Fantastic transfer window for us,” he added.

“Thank you to everyone at the Club who has work extremely hard to get all 4 deals over the line!
Proud and happy manager and so looking forward to start training again! Mon the hoops.”

Izzy also commented on her move to Celtic. “My childhood dream I can’t believe it..” she tweeted.
“Over the moon to have signed my first professional contract! Makes it even more special to be at this club. Absolutely buzzinggg.”

Anna Filbey also had her say on her loan move to Celtic: “Extremely excited to announce that I will be joining Celtic FC Women on loan for the remainder of the season. I can’t wait to get started.”
