French media are reporting that Brighton are in talks to sign Odsonne Edouard and hope to have the deal done next week. This of course has been an on-off transfer story with various denials about the Premier League club’s interest in the want-away Celtic striker who was left out of Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven yesterday afternoon in the Europa League qualifier against FK Jablonec which Celtic won 4-2.
The French Under 21 goalscorer was brought on in the closing stages but it seems that his time at Celtic is coming to a close and if these reports are correct he could be making his final appearance as a Celtic player at the Scottish Premiership match against Dundee on Sunday afternoon – the first home league match of the season for the Hoops.
There will be 24,500 supporters at that game and all will be happy to give Odsonne Edouard a fine send-off as he has been a truly magnificent player in a Celtic jersey. It’s been obvious for some time that he’s wanted to leave the club, indeed he had to be persuaded to stay last summer as Celtic chased a tenth successive title.
An earlier move to Leicester City collapsed amid disagreements on the asking price but now Brighton are apparently ready to pay the transfer fee that will take Edouard to the Seagulls.
