A week of tragic news with the passing of Johaness Edvaldsson has got that bit worse as it is now being reported that former Celtic Manager Dr Jozef Venglos has passed away at the age of 84.
The news broke in the Slovakian press in the last hour and Slovakian journalist Robert Durkac uploaded the following sorrow tweet.
Dr Jo was an unusual appointment at the time. He had a bizarre career in management, leading the likes of Czechoslovakia, Slovan Bratislava, Sporting Lisbon, Slovakia, Aston Villa and Fenerbache, as well as the likes of New South Wales, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Oman.
His season at Celtic wasn’t particularly successful in 1998/99, but he did make some interesting signings – none more so than Celtic legend Lubomir Moravcik. Venglos also introduced himself to the Glasgow Derby with a sensational 5-1 victory over Rangers at Paradise, when he handed Lubo his Celtic v Rangers debut.
RIP Dr Jo, in giving us the gift from God you will always be remembered by the Celtic faithful.
