Gary Hooper was a fine player for Celtic once upon a time, but any talk of him coming back is nonsense.

Gary Hooper as we know was a superb player for us. One of the best strikers to don the Hoops this century. Pace, strength and finishing he had it all. He had a fine masters tournament at the weekend as Celtic finished winners, Gary was also top scorer as he showed he’s still got that ability at the age of 35.

Gary is currently a free agent after a few years of bouncing around the world. This has led to talk of him being a back up option for Brendan Rodgers after the Irishman failed to bring in cover for that area during the transfer window.

To be fair it was former Celtic teammate and fellow masters winner Kelvin Wilson who made the suggestion, but in all seriousness it should be taken with a pinch of salt.

As good as Gary was, he will be nowhere in the thoughts of Brendan Rodgers. Gary had his day at the club, but that was then and this is now. With all due respect to Gary these days he’s nowhere near the required quality we need.

Ok he had a good masters tournament, but doing it against ageing out of shape ex pros is one thing and doing it against the current Scottish Premiership sides and in the Champions League is another. It’s night and day.

Any talk of a move for Gary Hooper should be knocked on the head. A complete non starter but it’s an entertaining enough story for supporters to discuss during the International break.

Just an Ordinary Bhoy
